Nessuno schermo ancora vale la luce riflessa dell'inchiostro -- ti conosco da 6 mesi ma non ho idea di chi sei. sei come una tapparella abbassata -- se avevo un libro o qualcosa da bere allora non pensavo troppo a tutto il resto, gli scemi riescono a crearsi un paradiso tutto loro [...] i libri non li leggevo tanto per intero ma a pezzetti [...] c'è tanta gente che ho letto e che mi sono scordato, e probabilmente non mi sono perso niente, ma mi ricordo di un tizio che ha scritto un libro intero nel quale dimostrava che la luna non c'è e ci riusciva così bene che alla fine tu pensavi, quest'uomo ha assolutamente ragione, la luna non c'è. come poteva un ragazzo degnarsi di andare a lavorare 8 ore al giorno quando non c'era più nemmeno la luna? cos'altro ti potevano togliere? e non mi piaceva tanto la letteratura quanto piuttosto i critici letterari; erano dei veri cazzoni, quei tizi; usavano un linguaggio raffinato, a suo modo splendido, per dire agli altri critici, agli scrittori, che erano dei rottinculo. mi rincuoravano. Ma erano i filosofi che soddisfacevano quel bisogno che si celava da qualche parte nella mia testa confusa: immergendomi nei loro eccessi e nel loro farraginoso vocabolario, spesso mi incantavano saltavano fuori con affermazioni azzardate infiammate che mi sembravano verità assoluta o maledettamente vicine alla verità assoluta, e questo tipo di sicurezza era quello che cercavo per la vita di ogni giorno, che assomigliava molto di più a un pezzo di cartone. quei tizi erano dei grandi, mi hanno fatto sopportare giorni come rasoi e notti piene di ratti -- io spero di non essere mai così bravo, io voglio morire con la mia testa buttata su questa macchina da scrivere 3 righe alla fine della pagina una sigaretta consumata tra le dita, la radio ancora accesa.

Fans of Supernatural will be happy to know that, in the first three minutes of the pilot, there’s two dudes in a muscle car, playing AC/DC. It wasn’t until I was even on set, shooting it, that Jon turned to me and was like, “This looks a lot like your other show,” and I said, “My god, you’re right! What is it about me that wants two protagonists in a muscle car, jamming to AC/DC? What is it about my tone?” I like to think that it’s got a lot of the same heart and a lot of the same intense focus on character. What separates Revolution from a lot of the genre shows that have failed before us is that they were far too interested in the concept and the shiny new toy of their mystery, and they forgot that what it’s about is characters struggling to be good and find their way home. Supernatural and Revolution both have that in common.
